They are fun to play and yes you can use the same amp that you'd use for a regular guitar.

I got my first bass for $99 bucksin 1984. I got my best bass for $6500, back in 1992.

I have neither now, but would consider another in the future.

Yeah that's a great one. I always tell people to learn how to play Mad Season's "Wake Up" it's really, really fun to play, and helped me tons with finger dexterity.

Personally, I would suggest going to a music shop and testing out some Mexican Fenders. Try'n play as many as you can becauase quality varies greatly, and then just pick the one you like the most. You don't even have to know how to play just hit a few strings and see if you like the sound. You could also try Ibanez series basses I've never had one, but I've heard good things.

I'm a bass player, so I might be a little biased when I say this. Buy a bass you'll love it. It's so completing to just turn up your amp and rumble your entire damn house.

Yeah you can use an electric amp. When you buy an amp and you wanna stay cheaper you're are undoubtably gonna stay with one driver (speaker) in your cabinet. So try to keep atleast a 12 inch driver. If it is it'll say something like 112 meaning 1 12 inch driver. 210 = 2 10 inch drivers. 10 inch driver alone, from my experience, start to distort when you play low. If you have two they handle it magnificantly though. Also really dependant on just the quality of the speakers themself. I'd try to stay at atleast around 70 watts. Maybe go with a lower price Fender Rumble.

Oh, and if you meant if you could use an electric guitar amp, then you could, but I wouldn't really suggest it. You won't get as bassy as you would outta a bass amp and it will almost undoubtably distort once you start to turn it up a bit.

I'd suggest this: http://www.music123.com/Fender-Rumble-60-i108898.music

It's 230 bucks and are pretty nice. It's also up to you though. Play as many amps as you can in the store, even ones that are completely out of your price range to see if you can find a sound that you like, and then try to get as close to that sound with the cheaper ones. Always remember, it's about what sounds good to YOU think sounds good.

Oh yeah!
Always try to haggle the price down!
