I think it took Jeff about an hour or so, never thought I coud get sick of that song, but he played the solo over and over and over and over and over and over again.. just listening to it. I mean..jesus.
then he played it on the bass.

i learned the whole thing except the solo in like 20 minutes, then the solo probably took me like 20 minutes a day for a couple days. i was like 12 years old at the time....if i was just learning it now id say the whole thing in 15....id be generous to give myself 5 minutes to learn the chordes, id have those down the first verse.. the solo is pretty simple even if you dont play solos, just play the first second of it on your cd player, press pause, learn the two notes, then do the next couple seconds on the cd player, find the notes, etc. thats how i did it when i was 12 anyways

For me it took about one or two days to learn the intro, verse, and chorus. Then it took me like a week or two to learn the solo. You should play the song on an acoustic guitar. It sounds pretty good.

I learned about 5 different variatons of Santeria before I finally got it right. A word of advice, FUCK online tabs. They leave out alot that you've got to figure out yourself.

verse and shit , 2 minutes by ear. (VERY easy when you know the chords.)
solo; well... 10 minutes by ear .it aint a hard solo after you get used to playing metal.

yeh, the Santeria solo is very easy, very basic. so is the song in general, especially if you start out with a knowlage of chords. a good first or second song. the most talented thing about Brad was his unique songwriting style. He could take a simple handfull of chords, bang out a bassline with Eric, and turn it into an instant classic, Santeria is a damn good example. has anyone ever heard the Spanish version? veeeeeery fuckin cool

Most sublime songs are simple on guitar as far as chords go...
in this songs case, pick around these bar chords:
E, G#, c#m, B
then sing the words with a traditional ska upswing 4 strokes on each chord for the first verse...
to the chorus:
A, B, E, C#m
to verse 2 and another chorus
and the solo...
...another chorus and E, D#, C#, B, A, B,
