Brad's confusing feelings

Post by April28_1991 » Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:06 am

In several songs Brad expresses his feelings to be contradictory.

As in 40 oz. to Freedom - "40oz. to freedom is the only chance i have
to feel good even though i feel bad."

In garden grove - "feelin' happy when I'm not, finding roaches in the pot."

There are a couple others songs like saw red and others which don't immediately come to mind where Brad seems to have emotional confusion. I can only imagine that it has something to do with using drugs as an escape, because it gives brad that false sense of happiness despite his suffering.

Let me know what you think..
"You're not the only one, but you're the best Bradley! Bo! Bo!"

he had it all figured out
"isn't often that I stand up to a challenge, but today I feel I'm fighting for my soul."

I know this post is a couple years old, but all of the songs are written from a deep deep dark helpless place called addiction, even if he was clean while writing, addiction is a neverending battle w/ a rollercoaster of non stop emotion. So I think he went w/ his feelings at whatever time he was writing at that particular moment. To quote Bradley "Man lyrics are hard" I think it really shows the ups and downs of addiction, thats the great thing about SUBLIME, you really feel the lyrics in your own way...........

In "Don't Push," he disses crack cocaine but in "Perfect World," he encourages the smoking of it.
