Lyric Corrections - Marley Medley

Post by Nach » Thu May 10, 2007 1:54 pm

Sublime Acoustic - Bradley Nowell & Friends

Marley Medley

(Brad laughs)

Baby I really wanna know,
I think you should stop your cryin'.
Here's my kerchief to dry your eyes,
you know I love you.

Ruby, here I am
Come rubbin' 'pon my belly, like some guava jelly.
Damsel, here I am
Come rubbin' 'pon my belly, like some guava jelly.

This train, is bound for glory, this train.
Hear me talkin' bout
This train, is bound for glory, this train.

This train, is bound for glory,
This train, will carry no unholy...
Stone that the builder refuse.
She'll always be the the head cornerstone.
A stone that the builder refuse,
She'll always be the head cornerstone.

You're a builder baby, and I am a stone.
Don't mean to confuse it girl.
Cuz the things you should use,
are the things we should choose.
Can you hear me? Hear what I say.

This train, bound for glory, this train.
This train, is bound for glory, this train.

This train is bound for glory,
This train, will carry no unholy...
Cuz I, I just can't be sad...

Notice that in the 4th stanza I swapped the word shall with the world she'll. I did this mostly because it really sounds more like she'll to me. I'm also somewhat certain that this song was written about a relationship Bradley had. I think he's referring to his girl as the head cornerstone (the chief foundation on which something is constructed or developed....a really sweet metaphor)

I'm not sure where the lyrics on this site came from but I think if you listen to the song closely and read these lyrics you'll agree with my interpretation.

Not that it matters that much what he is saying though...his voice says it all. :D

This is a really deep song....I can't even begin to explain to you the feeling it gives me inside. I cried the first time I heard it, not from sadness or really happiness, but from an admiration of overwhelming beauty. Bradley has a way with words and vocals that is beyond compare to ANY other band or singer. For that reason, this music is a significant part of my life.

Peace and Love

Care to explain why? Like I said...it's only my interpretation so I'm open to whatever you may have to say.

"shall be the head cornerstone" is a direct quote from a bob marley song...

I see... how about the rest of it? Any other direct quotes I'm missing?

Now I feel like a fool....but I'm gonna stick to my original interpretation. It's what the song means to ME

Peace

Not just a quote from Marley, it's a direct quote from the Psalm.

Is it possible that Bradley took these quotes and made them his own?

Maybe none of them are direct quotes but more references to Psalms and Marley with slight alterations so they apply directly to his life?

Just a thought....

I had this CD burned for me and didn't even know the name of the song until well after I made my own assumptions about his lyrics.

Too bad we can't ask him...

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?bo ... &version=9

22The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

It is also reference in Mark 12:10 and it's quoted the same way...

The Psalm is David referring to the way Israel was cast aside and enslaved, etc. yet has come to power and is also a prophetic message regarding the coming of Jesus, who would be cast aside by the Israelites in turn, the become the cornerstone of the modern Chruch.

No sweat, check out the Bob Marley website and read up about the Rastafarian ties...that's where alot of the religious references came from...
