rock me tonight -- "Smoke Two Joints"

Post by rockthetropics » Fri Feb 23, 2007 4:16 pm

The last line in "Smoke Two Joints" is actually:

Rock me tonight for old times' sake

It's from a song by Freddie Jackson called, appropriately enough, "Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times' Sake)," from the 1985 album Rock Me Tonight. Freddie was a huge r&b sensation in the 80s, and Brad Nowell had a very extensive and very eclectic knowledge of music, so I wasn't surprised to find Freddie among his lyrical references.

Hope that helps! Thanks for maintaining this website and keeping lit the torch of Sublime.

Those are the correct lyrics, but possibly not the correct source. I have it as Shinehead from their track "Good Love Tonight", off of Africa Love. It came out 1/1/85 or earlier.

Can you send that song to me?

I don't have it... the guy who started this topic might, or I can search on Limewire for it later.

Hey Lou,

I've never heard of Shinehead, or of that song. I'll send you Freddie Jackson's version if you don't mind sending me that one. (It's an iTunes file, though.) My email is sylviamaya[at]gmail[dot]com.

Thanks,

Sylvia

you can get rid of the itunes protection when you buy songs...burn the file to a cd, delete the original itunes file then copy the songs back onto your computer

Well a point I'd make is that Sublime new Shinehead, but I don't know about their influence by Freddie Jackson. In "At it Again" on EUTS, the lyrics are directly influenced by another song off the same album by Shinehead as "Good Love Tonight".

I have a terrible vinyl rip of "Good Love Tonight" but I can send it when I get home from work.
