The yellow cat is a reference to TS Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"

http://www.bartleby.com/198/1.html

LET us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
......
....
The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

This smothering fog is personified into the familiar of a cat, the cat being used as a vehicle for Eliot's themes of desolation and feebleness, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Obviously, Bradley is selecting the phrase, "got my yellow cat," to represent all his residing troubles that suppress him - yet he has it, he has made it into a tangible and simply places it along with his other materials.

that is some deep shit.

unless im missing something, a yellow cat wouldnt help in beating someone up.

what does he mean by yellow cat?

I always thought it had to do with the private parts of an asian woman he was particularly fond of. Perhaps the girl in the Doin' Time vid?

it's not that kind of pussy, mister ed.

Proof?

Wasnt the Doin' Time vid filmed after Bradley passed away?

Of course! Maybe Brad banged her before he passed away though.

If you look at the lyrics on What Happened, he really draws out the part where he says "Indian or Japaneeeeeeese..."

Methinks it is a shout-out to her.

(first of all, sorry for all the excess quoting)

I think you're looking a bit too far into it at this point. Even though Brad has been known to be deep in some of his lyrics, I think it's much more simple- like a reference to heroine or maybe an inside joke.

I respectfully disagree. We may never know what the true meaning of it is, but it is my opinion that my hypothesis, Asian Tang, is at the forefront.

I'm pretty sure he was comparing the yellow cat in hong kong phooey to miguel. The cat was like behind the scenes running everything. Much like Miguel with the band.

I think it's great that a couple lines in a song, not to mention a fuckin kick ass song it's one of my favorites, can mean so many different things to different people, I think that everyone should inturpret it however they want. Asian tang, heroin, or a cat, it's still a great song no matter

Not only that, these are delicious by themselves. Put them together and you've got a party.

it's 8:05 this is phillis in the office; the cat is out on the patio. if it jumps one more time, your butts are in the street. i am sick and tired of your activities, and your cat, and your untruths with me. i'm going to call you tomorrow, when you're home, and you better explain a lot of things to me because i'm sick and tired of your bull-shit. good night."

the cats name was hermes...

I know I've heard Brad explain it on something. For anyone that has seen Hong Kong Phooey. There is a YELLOW CAT, that is always behind the scene being the mastermind.

Now if you know anything about Sublime Miguel was much the same way. Behind the scenes being the mastermind.

Whats so hard to get?

They said in an interview (I think it was the Saturday morning cartoon one, but I can't remember) that they had a ton of cats and dogs.

But I'm sure it was about Miguel.

CHRIS this discussion is getting nowhere, do you know?
