How come Bradley never wrote a song about Troy?

Post by GoinPostal » Tue Jun 05, 2007 1:24 pm

I was jus thinkin... Bradley sang songs about pretty much anything... but nothing about his wife Troy.... Anyone else find that kind of weird... i would have expected him to write one and have it appear on their self-entitled album, since they got married at about the same time that album was being produced.... or maybe he did write a song about her that i just missed... or maybe he was planning on it and never had the oppurtunity...whats your guys opinion on this?

He sang about Eileen his first love, we know that for sure but, i think he's made reference to Troy. Even though he didn't say her name.

Good question, Postal!

He mentions Troy in Roots of Creation and refers to her in Cisco Kid. That's all I can think of in terms of references to her.

he could have not mention troy in roots of creation.. he wrote that song in either late 80s or early 90s.

I have to tell you, the lyrics section agrees with you. I always heard it as "me and my wife troy come to sing a reggae song" but the lyrics section reads "me am a white boy but i sing a reggae song".

You're right, pg 60 says

"But Brad was a scholar. He didn't buy into traditional religious teachings. His mom was a Jesus freak, and it turned him off to Christianity because he had it forced on him at a young age... Jesus wasn't the answer for him." -Bud Gaugh

However, he sang about religious stuff a lot...

Ain't got no quarrels with God, ain't got no time to grow old, Lord knows i'm weak... -Badfish
I pray to Jesus Christ but you wont get too far -Had a DAT
Love Jesus, don't forget to pray -Cisco Kid
God knows I'm not going back -40 Oz To Freedom
Glory please have God coming from heaven above... -New Song
Jesus and her mom are gonna break your arm -Superstar Punani
If God's good word goes unspoken, the music goes all night -Don't Push
Real, real, real, Jah so real to me... -Great Stone
Look youthman, Jah Jah is calling... -Steady B Loop Dub

These are the only ones I can think of right now. Anyone know any more?

my opinion now that ive thought about it for a couple of days... the reason he never wrote a song about Jacob was because he was only about 9 months when he died... and he probably couldnt find the write way to portray his love for Troy in a proper and respectfull way towards his wife.. but i bet if he wanted to Brad could have wrote her the best love song ever!

Does anyone know specifically what songs Brad would play for Jacob? In Crazy Fool, Troy talks about how Brad would play early Marley songs and his own material, but she doesn't mention what he would play for Jake. I imagine that he wouldn't play any songs with profanity.

i think that brad probably wrote little lines here and there for troy, like "my baby likes to shoot pool". i'm pretty sure she was around at that point... he dedicated pool shark to her at a show, i have the audio but totally forget what show.

i know that he wrote boss DJ while in costa rica and was dating cat rodriquez.
i would run; i would switch, but i wanna be the same.

Maybe... but Christianity teaches that God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) are one.

Yes, I quoted a piece of this before. I agree that Brad did not personally believe in religion, but I also agree that Brad sang about quite a bit of religious stuff in his work.

Maybe... but Christianity teaches that God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) are one.[/quote]

right, but i think brad dont mentions about christianity...
maybe brad mentions about Jah (Rastafari God), or just God in your "simple" meaning (powerfully force)

That's possible. Brad did sing about religious things quite a bit though.

"Now that your dead, I love (I love I love I love) my entertainment...I don't want (I don't want I don't want I don't want) no excitement...I don't want (I don't want I don't want I don't want) no indictment...I don't need I don't want I don't need I don't want no disapointment...ohhhhhhhh, Lord God"
-Babylon Stone

This sounds like he is refering to his salvation through Jesus Christ...in fact the whole first part of that song sounds that way to me...

Also, the extended intro to Greatest Hits...

...I did read the citations above that insist he is an atheist, but I have always believed in Bradley's salvation...
